Govt. bemoans high rate of  livestock deaths in  Western Province

Mongu,  March 20,  2013, ZANIS…….Government has bemoaned the high rate at which livestock has dropped due to diseases in Western Province.

Provincial Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba says that it is saddening to note that this came as a result of negligence by government to combat diseases and encourage farmers to dip their cattle.

The Permanent Secretary explained that livestock diseases were left unattended to and dipping of cattle was equally left to farmers alone for many years.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Mwamba said this during an environmental awareness campaign workshop organized by Mumwa Crafts Association aimed at protecting the environment, held in Mongu yesterday.

Mr. Mwamba has assured farmers that it was government’s duty to address the challenges and manage the livestock diseases than leaving it to them alone.

Mr. Mwamba noted that Western Province had for a long time been known for its richness in livestock hence need to revamp the cattle industry and bring more money into the Province.
