THE Lesotho National team has suffered four injuries ahead of the crucial 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier first league match against Zambia on Sunday March 24.
And Lesotho coach Leslie Notsi said Chipolopolo striker Jacob Mulenga’s absence will be a relief to his team.
Coach Leslie Notsi confirmed in an interview yesterday that four of his players were doubtful for the crucial match with the Zambian Copper bullets.
Notsi said despite the three injuries being minor he was not sure if the players could recover in time ahead of the clash with Chipolopolo.
He named the three players who have suffered minor injuries as midfielders Mothlepula Mofolo and Maduti Potloane as well as goalkeeper Mohau Koenane.
Notsi also said striker Thulo Renchobe suffered a serious injury in a league match two weeks ago and had not recovered.
“Training is coming up very well and everything is fine despite some injuries in the team. We have a few injuries which the physios are working on. The major one is on Thulo who suffered a knock in a league match two weeks ago and I haven’t received any report from the doctor for the past two days,” Notsi said.
Notsi however said the team spirit was still in camp and would approach the match as if everything was fine.
“We know we will go into this match as under dogs but we still believe in ourselves. We can’t write ourselves off this match so we will give it our all,” he said.
Meanwhile Notsi said the team received Mulenga’s absence from the Chiplopolo with great relief.
He said Mulenga’s decision to pull out of the match was one problem solved out of the many against the 2012 African champions.
“Zambia has a very strong team, so if one player is not playing then it’s one problem minus. But I know his absence won’t make a lot of difference because they have a strong side with a lot of players with international exposure,” he said.
Zambia heads group D with six points three better than second placed Ghana while Lesotho and Sudan have a point each after two games played.
Winner of the group will progress the third and final round of the qualifiers.
