ZESCO United opens league on a good note

Kabwe, March 17,  ZANIS———–Newly promoted MTN/ FAZ Super League
side “magnificent” Kabwe Warriors yesterday failed to use its home
ground advantage when the team lost 1-0 to ZESCO United FC in their opening
fixture played at the former Railway Stadium now christtened Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu Stadium.

The visiting team took the lead in the 43rd minute through midfielder
Tom Bakala, who seeped through the defence to slot in the ball from a
low left flank cross which secured a win for the Ndola side.

Saturday, was a magnificent and emotional moment for soccer loving
people of Kabwe, as they witnessed the retain of the MTN/FAZ Super
League to the former Railway Stadium.

The league retained to the renowned stadium after a one year recess
from the prestigious topflight competition, following the relegation
of Kabwe Warriors to the lower division league.

The rejuvenated Kabwe Warriors side faced an up-hill battle in their
opening fixture, as they were pitted against a more experienced Tembo
Chembo tutored ZESCO United side.

Unfortunately, the Kabwe side failed to use its home ground advantage
and were made to pay in the 43rd minute after ZESCO midfielder Tom
Bakala, seeped through the defence to score the all-important goal for
the Ndola side.

At break, the young lads from Kabwe were instructed by Coach Dick
Ngwenya to close down the opponent in the second half which they
surely did, hence, seeing the game end in a slender 1-0 result in
favour of ZESCO United.

In a post-match interview with ZANIS, the winning Coach, Tembo Chembo
said a win is very important for any team at the start of the season
as it sets the morale and confidence for the rest of the season.

“Am pleased with the performance by the team, although we have a lot
to do and I should also mention that am very happy with the new
players as they have blended in so well.” he said.

Meanwhile, Kabwe Warriors Coach, Dick Ngwenya said he was happy with
his team’s performance but blamed the defeat on the defenders saying
they showed complacency late in the first half which led to the loss
of their first match of the 2013 MTN/FAZ Super League.

Kabwe Warriors have a tough second encounter ahead as they face Power
Dynamos who are in high spirit after winning their away opening
fixture against Nchanga Rangers, whereas, ZESCO United will be home at
the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in their second fixture, as they face
another newly promoted side Nkwazi FC.
