Mines, Energy and Water Development Deputy Minister Charles Zulu said rural women have a key to play in fostering development in their areas.

Speaking when he officiated at the Women’s Day celebration in Luangeni yesterday, Mr Zulu said women should not sideline themselves and think men are better than them.

He said that women should consider themselves to be equal partners with men in delivering development.

Mr Zulu who is also Luangeni Member of Parliament said there is need for men and women to work together and bring development in their communities.

He pledged that as area MP he will make sure that he incorporates women in all developmental projects in the constituency.

The parliamentarian has since called on the women in Luangeni to form clubs and venture into sustainable economic activities and improve their livelihoods.

Mr Zulu also donated bicycles and text books to the women clubs and school going children in the area.

And Women representative Josephine Zulu called on government to come up with programmes aimed at empowering women.

She said women had the potential to contribute to the economic development of the country but lacks support from stakeholders.
