Nakonde women to sensitize on GBV

Nakonde, March 7, 2013, ZANIS… The Nakonde Women’s Association in Muchinga province has embarked on a programme to sensitise people on the dangers of early marriages and gender based violence (GBV) as part of celebrations to mark this year’s International Women’s’ Day.

This years’ International Women’s Day will be held tomorrow on March 8 under the theme “Gender  Agenda: Gaining Momentum”.

District women association (DWA) chairperson, Queen Nawakwi told ZANIS in Nakonde today that the sensitisation targeting both men and women will be conducted in public places such as markets.

Other places to be visited during the sensitisation campaigns are health centres and schools.

She said that the association has also planned to extend the sensitisation campaign to villages in the border town in order to educate people living in those areas.

Ms Nawakwi said that women in remote areas are vulnerable hence the need to target them during the sensitisation campaign.
