Southern acquires Graders for road rehabilitation

Choma, February 27, ZANIS ——– Government has procured brand new graders to improve rural roads in the Southern province.

Southern Provincial Permanent Secretary Chileshe Mulenga says the equipment which has been imported from outside the country has already arrived and is being cleared by the Zambia Revenue Authority.

Dr Mulenga told ZANIS in Choma today that the graders will be deployed to districts to urgently begin repairs in areas where road infrastructure is in a bad state.

He said the Patriotic Front government realizes that Southern province is an agriculture area which requires a good rural road network in order to boost farming activities.

The Permanent Secretary said government will ensure that the feeder roads in the entire province receive a facelift so as to ease the transportation of both produce and inputs to and from agricultural productive areas.

And Dr Mulenga has disclosed that government will upgrade 200 kilometers of gravel roads to bituminous standard in Choma and other three towns in Southern province.

He saidLivingstone, Monze and Mazabuka will also benefit.

Dr Mulenga disclosed that the Road Development Agency (RDA) has been funded and will soon move on site to begin the projects.
