Shop break-ins worry Councillor

—-A civic leader in Kasama district of Northern Province has expressed concern over numerous shop break ins at Chambeshi location market where property worth thousands of Kwacha has been stolen by unknown people.

 

Buseko Ward Councillor Patrick Maponga said break ins that have characterized the area where one security guard had his hands and a leg chopped off by unknown thieves last month was worry some and posing threat to people’s lives in the area.

 

He said thieves have been terrorising the market for a long time and called on Police to intervene into the matter.

 

Councilor Maponga pointed out that Chambeshi Location Market has over a thousand marketers whose property is in danger of being stolen.

 

 Mr Maponga suggested that a police post should be established at the market to safeguard people’s lives and property.

 

The councillor who complained of poor road network in the area however said K 15 thousand has been released to construct Location-Chitamba bridge across Mulilansolo stream to easy accessibility.

 

Mr Maponga added that materials have been ferried on site and construction will begin soon.

 

When contacted for a comment over the suggested police post, Northern Police Commissioner Mary Chikwanda said her office will not hesitate to post police officers at the market once the market has constructed an office and toilet.

 

Commissioner Chikwanda said the market committee should provide conducive environment for Police officers.

Ms Chikwanda also added that Police has continued to make patrols around Kasama Township in the night.

 

She said that her office is prepared to work with progressive community to provide law and order to people.
