ZCTU urges government, national unions to speed up negotiations

Nakonde, February 20, ZANIS —– Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in Muchinga Province has appealed to government and national unions to quickly conclude the salary negotiations for workers in the country.

ZCTU Regional Coordinator for Muchinga province, Nondo Kasanda said this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde today.

Mr Kasanda said that the negotiations between worker’s national unions and government on salary and other working conditions started last year but have not yet been concluded.

He said that workers need to know the increment percentage that has been given to them in good time.

“Workers in Muchinga province area eager to know how much salary increment has been allocated to them,” said Mr Kasanda.

Mr Kasanda further said that workers do not expect such negotiations to be taking long like in the previous government.

He said that this year final collective agreement is expected to end on 28 this month end.

The union leader said that workers also want to know what PF government has concluded on other working conditions for public workers in the country.

Mr Kasanda said that workers also wants to know what has been concluded on things like funeral scheme, Government union Bank, retention, recruitment allowance, and meal allowances.

He charged that workers were hoping that the negotiations would be concluded before the presentation of this year’s budget but things have stopped moving in line with everyone’s expectations.
