The Road Development Agency (RDA) has awarded a contract to Gomes Haulage Limited for the rehabilitation and upgrading of 31.9 kilometres of urban roads in Ndola at a cost of over KR47 million (K47 billion).

RDA Chief Executive Officer Bernard Chiwala said Gomes Haulage Limited was appointed to complete works that were left incomplete following the termination of the Fratelli Locci contract last year.

Mr. Chiwala told journalists in Lusaka today that Gomes Haulage Limited was selected out of six shortlisted companies.

He has since urged the contractor to move on site quickly and produce quality works.

The RDA Chief Executive Officer however expressed confidence that the company would undertake the project to the expectation of the agency after it successfully rehabilitated urban roads in Luanshya.

Mr. Chiwala said RDA expected that the contractor will mobilise in the next four weeks and commence works.

He said the works were expected to be completed within 12 months from date of execution of the contract.

The scope of works the contractor is expected to cover include bush clearing and grubbing o (removing roots and stumps from the ground), road formation, construction of pavement layers, construction of culverts, construction of lay-bys, erection of roads signs and provision of road markings.
