PTUZ attributes low grade 12 pass rate to examination leakages and absenteeism

Lusaka, February 16, ZANIS—— Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PTUZ) has attributed the low grade twelve pass rates to examination leakages and absenteeism of subject teachers in secondary schools.

Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PTUZ) General Secretary Kangwa Musenga who expressed the union’s disappointment said the low pass rate calls for tough measures in secondary schools to curb leakages and absenteeism.

In a statement released to ZANIS today, Mr. Musenga said PTUZ will soon be submitting a proposal to the Ministry of Education on how to address leakages and absenteeism in order to improve the 2013 pass rate at grade twelve.

He further appealed to government to quickly announce the date for commencement of Salary and conditions of service negotiations as the current collective agreement comes to an end on February 28 this year.

Mr. Musenga said the current delay by government to announce the commencement of negotiations on conditions of service and salaries has brought a lot of insinuations and rumours among teacher.
