Renowned Chipata politician arrested
Chipata, February 12, ZANIS…. A renowned politician in Chipata Eastern Province has been arrested and charged for insulting the Eastern Province Army Regional Commander and Police Officers at the Chipata central police.
Eastern Province Commanding Officer Mary Chipalila confirmed this to ZANIS in Chipata today saying Chishala Chilufya was arrested on Thursday last week.
Ms. Chipalila explained that Mr. Chilufya was charged with conduct likely to cause a bleach of peace after he turned to be violent after he was approached by the Regional Commander (RC) only identified as Colonel N’guni for using plastic containers to buy fuel.
She disclosed that Col N’guni only wanted to inquire why Mr. Chilufya was using plastic containers to buy fuel the vice which had been banned.
She noted that it was at this point that Mr. Chilufya turned violent and started insulting the RC at the filling station.
Ms. Chipalila added that even after been arrested and taken to the police station he continued to cause a stare by using abusive language against the police officers.
She noted that Mr. Chilufya had bought 25 by 20 litres of fuel in plastic containers using a Nissan hard body with a Malawian number plate BM 8793.
The Commanding Officer added that police were currently carrying out investigations to establish the owner of the vehicle adding that Mr. Chilufya is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
Ms. Chipalila has further warned that police in Eastern Province will not relent in ensuring that the law is applied to any person who will be found going against the ban on the use of plastic containers to buy fuel.
