Two die, four injured in Mumbwa accident

Two people died on the spot while four others are nursing serious injuries in Mumbwa District Hospital after a track they were travelling in rammed into another stationary truck and trailer.

Mumbwa District Hospital Medical Superintendent, Reward Sibanda, confirmed to ZANIS in Mumbwa today that the accident happened around 21:00 about 15 km west of Mumbwa Boma along Lusaka-Mongu road.

Dr Sibanda identified the dead as Spencer Shalukono, 28, a businessman of Mumbwa and Gift Leyi, 35, also of Mumbwa.

The medical superintendent explained that Mr Shalukono, who was driving a Mercedes Benz truck registration number ALF 6256 from Nalusanga to Mumbwa misjudged the distance where another truck and trailer had packed and rammed into it.

He said the two of them died on the spot while four others were rushed to Mumbwa District Hospital for treatment.

The medical superintendent added that one victim, identified as Vasco Kawela, 35, of Muledema, had his right leg amputated due to excessive bleeding.

He described the condition for those in hospital as stable while the bodies of the decesed are lying in Mumbwa District Hospital mortuary.
