Illegal fishermen escapes dragnet as 600 kg of fish has been seized
Kalabo, February 9, ZANIS ——About 600 Kilograms of fresh fish plus 11 domestic mosquito nets have been confiscated by the Fisheries Department during an anti-fishing operation on the Zambezi River in Kalabo district.
Kalabo Assistant Fisheries Officer John Thole confirmed the development to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kalabo today.
Mr Thole said that about 600 Kgs of fish was confiscated by a joint operations anti-fishing team comprising of the Fisheries department and the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) this Thursday and Friday in Libonda, Makono and Nayaka villages.
Mr Thole however, said that no fisherman was apprehended during the operation as the culprits escaped the moment they heard the sound of the engine of the speed boat from a distance.
The Fisheries officer said that the fish was disposed-off through Kalabo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
