DEC arrests Somali woman for drug trafficking

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a 34 year old female Somali national for drug trafficking.

Hawa Lima of flat 16, Kachipo in Ndola, has been arrested for trafficking in 27 bundles of miraa weighing 12.7 kilogrammes (kg).

The commission has since seized the car she was using at the time of arrest.

In a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Commission Public Relations Officer Samuel Silomba said the commission has also arrested and jointly charged two Malawian nationals for trafficking in loose cannabis.

Mr. Silomba said Edward Mphande, 48, a peasant farmer of Kaume village in Kasungu district in Malawi has been arrested and jointly charged with Masauso Banda 26, a peasant farmer of Hamard Kanyinji village of Mzimba district also in Malawi.

He said the duo was arrested for trafficking in 158.8 kg of loose cannabis which was concealed in three polythene bags.

Meanwhile, Mr. Silomba noted that the commission has in the last three days arrested a total of 20 people countrywide for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis adding that all suspects will appear in court soon.
