Governement empowers Nakonde women clubs

Government has distributed hammer mills and Poultry equipment to Women’s Clubs in Nakonde district of Muchinga Province.

The distributed items include 4 diesel Hammer Mills, assorted Poultry equipment which includes 74 small and big Chicks drinkers, and 6 Pan Feeders.

Ministry of Gender Permanent Secretary (PS) Edwidge Mutale handed over the items to the deserving beneficiaries at a ceremony held at the district commissioner’s office.

Ms. Mutale said the distribution of assorted equipment to women’s Clubs in the area was one of the government’s program being carried out under the Women Economic Empowerment program.

Ms Mutale further said that government was working tirelessly to ensure that many women became economically viable, and independent.

She said that women empowerment program will help reduce poverty and high levels of dependence among women in the country.

“As Government we are fighting hard in order to see to it that three quarters of our women becomes economically independent in the community,’’ said Ms Mutale.

The PS has since urged the beneficiaries to take extra care of the equipment.

She also appealed to the District Commissioner’s office and the Department of Community Development to monitor such projects frequently and ensure that the equipment is put to good use.

Meanwhile, Nakonde District Commissioner James Singoyi commended the Ministry of Gender for its continued program of supporting women in the district.

Mr. Singoyi said the support women in the border town have received from the Ministry of Gende will go a long way in improving their livelihood.
