Bwafwano Care Providers, a faith based nongovernmental organisation (NGO) dealing with HIV and AIDS affected vulnerable children, has donated school prerequisites to over 100 vulnerable children in Kitwe.

The donated prerequisites included school fees, uniforms, shoes, books and bags among others worthy about KR51, 000.

Speaking during the presentation of the items, Kitwe District AIDS Task Force Coordinating Advisor, Eliud Phiri commended Bwafwano for the gesture which he said had supplemented government efforts in supporting the vulnerable children in society.

Mr. Phiri added that the donation will also cushion the support burden on the grandparents who cannot manage to meet all the needs of vulnerable children.

He bemoaned the increased number of orphaned children roaming the streets of Kitwe where they are being abused sexually and physically.

He also observed that the district department of social welfare and community development was failing to adequately address the problems of vulnerable children in homes and on the street due to the increasing number.

Mr. Phiri urged other stakeholders in Kitwe to take keen interest in helping orphans and vulnerable children in the district.

Earlier, Bwafwano Care Providers Executive Director Minerva Phiri appealed to the department of community development to continue considering the NGO for community grants so that it can further mitigate the suffering of the vulnerable children in society.

She urged the beneficiaries of the donation to take advantage of the support by concentrating on their studies so that they can be educated and excel in life.

  1. Gandhi once said, happiness is when what you THINK,what you SAY and what you DO are in harmony. Putting a smile on one of those many orphans you are working with brings so much harmony in our country.Continue the hard work Bwafwano.
