Thieves  on Saturday night went on rampage breaking into government offices at Senanga District Administration Block.

Among the offices broken into was the office of the District Commissioner’s office were they got away with a laptop.

The other offices ransacked were the District Social Welfare office, National Agriculture Information Services office, District Marketing and Cooperatives Office and the office of the District Aids Coordinating Advisor.

Offices belonging to Shangombo District Medical office but stationed in Senanga were also broken into and the thieves got away with two laptops.

Senanga District Commissioner Mihupulo Yumei confirmed the theft to ZANIS in an interview.

The District Commissioner said he suspects the thieves could have been misled into thinking his office was in custody of cash meant Youth Empowerment Funds because the break-in comes at a time when his office was handling applications from youth groups for the funds.

Mr. Yumei said his office has engaged the office of the Western Province Permanent Secretary’s office and is in the process of recruiting some security guards so that government property is secured.

He said Police have launched investigations into the matter but no arrests have been made so far.

This is the second time in less than one year that the District Administration Block is being broken into.

Last year in April thieves broke into the Ministry of Agriculture accounts offices and stole two laptops.
