The Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) has launched its inaugural social networking programme to promote tourism products and investment in the sector.

ZTB Director, Felix Chaila, announced the initiative at a special session for the Zambia Diaspora under the theme “Marketing Zambia as Tourist Destination and Investment Opportunities in the Industry” held at the Zambian High Commission in London last evening.

This is contained in statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by the Zambian High Commission in London.

“There is a huge gap between the many Zambians in the Diaspora and ZTB and we want this closed up and we are pleased that we are doing this at the Zambian High Commission in London. This is a special event for us,” said Mr Chaila.

Mr Chaila said the initiative, which will incorporate maximum usage of social media, is intended at marketing both tourism products and help attract investment into the sector by making available the necessary information on the incentives that have offered by the government.

And Zambian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Bizwayo Nkunika, said the mission was open to Zambians and government institutions seeking to advance national interests.

Lt Col Nkunika urged Zambians in the Diaspora to utilize the facility in marketing Zambian’s tourism potential rather than wasting time propagating gossip and falsehoods on some media platforms.

“This mission opens and I wish to encourage you as ZTB and other players seeking to promote tourism to make the best use of the facility. This important session is testimony to our commitment as the mission to do our best to market Zambia…Use the mission as Zambians in the Diaspora instead of wasting your time propagating gossip and falsehoods that we often see in some media platforms,” he said.

The session took place after the close of the 2012 World Travel Market (WTM) that took place at the Excel in London.

The Zambia delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Art, David Phiri, and his Permanent Secretary, Charity Mwansa.

The WTM is a global network exhibition staged annually in London as the leading global event for the travel industry providing a vibrant business event with a diverse range of destinations and industry sector to UK and international travel professionals.
